Step 1 of 12

Choose your structure

This one choice decides how much tax you pay on every bit of profit.

Sole trader

Register for Self Assessment with HMRC by 5 October after your first tax year.

Cheapest to run. Best while profit is modest.

Company

A private limited company, registered with Companies House, then corporation tax with HMRC.

Protects your personal assets. Often saves tax once profit grows.

Compare costs and break even points

Step 2 of 12

Check your name, and get AI ideas if it is taken

Search the official register at Companies House, then let AI suggest similar names you can use.

Prefer to double check on the official register?

AI ideas are a starting point. Always confirm a name on the official register before you buy anything.

Step 3 of 12

Find a free domain name, right here

We look each one up in the public domain registry.

"Looks available" means no registration was found. Confirm at any domain seller before you rely on it.

Step 4 of 12

Register officially, once your name and domain are clear

Only leave Taxmiser for this step. You register directly with the government, so no middleman fees.

Before you go, check you have:

  • â—‹ A name (step 2)
  • â—‹ A free domain (step 3)

The official online fee is £100 (since May 2024). Check the current figure on GOV.UK.

Tax registrations: HMRC Self Assessment, corporation tax, PAYE if you pay yourself, VAT past the threshold.

Your uploaded logo stays on your device. Downloads are listed on your dashboard. Before you trademark a logo, check the trade mark register for similar ones.

Step 6 of 12

Build your website and see it live

Pick a design, fill a few boxes and watch your new business come to life. No designer fees.

Pick a design

Three products or services

Save first to get a preview link, then make it live on your Taxmiser web address. Want your own domain, like yourbusiness.com? M3CA can connect it for you.

Want the real thing, on your own domain?

M3CA builds and launches your full business website, with booking, shop or contact forms. Website costs are usually an allowable business expense.

Step 7 of 12

Do it yourself here, or let M3CA do it all

Both routes save you money. Pick the one that fits your time.

Check @yourbusiness is free, then create your page

A "page not found" usually means the handle is free. The platforms only let you create pages on their own sites, so the final click opens there. Paste the bio and upload your kit.

No time to post? M3CA sets up and runs your pages.

Step 9 of 12

Photos and video on a small budget

Good pictures sell. You do not need a studio.

  • Shoot by a window in daylight, with white card opposite to soften shadows.
  • Use your phone's main lens, clean it, and lock focus by tapping.
  • Keep one plain background so every product photo matches.
  • Film short vertical clips of 15 to 30 seconds showing the product in use.
  • Use AI tools to remove backgrounds and make lifestyle mockups, but show real products honestly.
  • Cameras, lights and editing apps for the business are usually allowable costs, so keep the receipts.

Rather not use your phone? Let M3CA shoot it.

M3CA photography and cinematography: product photos, brand shoots and short promo videos, ready for your website and social pages. Professional fees are usually an allowable business cost.

Step 10 of 12

Your AI first year case study

See a sample first year: profit, an estimated tax bill and the moves that cut it.

Step 11 of 12

Get funding for your first business

Grants, startup loans and investor tax reliefs, matched to your country.

Step 12 of 12

Launch it all

Tick off each step, then launch. Everything you built here stays on your dashboard.

Business name and registration questions

How do I check if a business name is available?

Type it into step 2 on this page. For the UK we search the live Companies House register and tell you instantly if it is taken or free. For the US, Australia, Canada and New Zealand we link you to the right official register with your name ready, and AI suggests similar names if yours is gone.

How much does it cost to register a company?

Registering a UK limited company online with Companies House costs a small government fee, and a sole trader registers with HMRC for free. US state fees, the Australian ABN (free) and ASIC company fee, and Canadian and New Zealand fees are listed in our business tax guide. You file it yourself, so there are no middleman fees.

Sole trader or limited company, which pays less tax?

It depends on your profit. At lower profits a sole trader is usually simpler and cheaper. Once profits grow, a company often pays less tax overall. Step 1 compares both with your own figures.

Can I check a domain name and make a logo here too?

Yes. Step 3 looks your domain up in the public domain registry, and step 5 lets you design a logo on the page. Members and people on the 1 day free trial can download it as PNG or SVG.

Do I need an accountant to start a business?

No. Many people register and file themselves. Taxmiser walks you through each step and shows the lawful reliefs that cut your tax bill from day one. Use a professional if your situation is complex.
